Specifications of the G15 Draw Driver
The Ping G15 draw driver is specifically manufactured and engineered for the golfer who is looking for a driver that has maximum forgiveness and will also deliver the greatest distance and accuracy. The draw driver has a lengthened titanium head that repositions the center of gravity with an external sole weight. This repositioned weight gives a higher trajectory as well as reduces the spin effect. The face has a larger design to give maximum ball speed while providing consistency across the whole hitting surface.
There are two shaft options the TFC 149D shaft and the Aldila Serrano 60 Shaft. The 149D is constructed out of premium graphite and specially designed by Ping to utilize the latest in high balance point technology. Engineers were able to increase the mass of the head by about 5 grams without adding to the swing weight or club weight. This way the player’s club head speed remains unaffected. This new design gives higher speeds and additional MOI which in turn yields longer and straighter drives.
The Aldila Serrano 60 is also constructed of premium graphite and is designed to give an alternative to the TFC 149 club family. It will give the golfer just a vaguely lower angle of launch and spin.
Features of the G15 Draw Driver
- 460cc titanium head yields maximum forgiveness, improved accuracy and distance
- Internal weight pad is repositioned closer to heel which allows increased club rotation
- Elongated face design gives increased ball speed and consistency across the face area
- External sole weight pad provides center of gravity which produces higher launch angles and lower spin rate
Reviews of the G15 Draw Driver
The new G15 draw driver has impressed the golfing world. One thing that golfers have found impressive is its new levels of forgiveness. There were several improvements made over its predecessor the G10 – and quite frankly, that was a difficult task. It reaches a higher moment of inertia (MOI) by elongating the head from front to back. The face size was also increased by 7 percent which most golfers have found to be a much more consistent hitting surface. And the center of gravity has been shifted an positions so that trajectories are higher and spin is lower.
Those who have been playing some of the other “softer” sounding drivers that are available will notice a totally new sound with this one. This louder, but not obnoxious, sound gives you the sense that you struck the ball with a greater force.
Whether or not you can achieve greater distances will largely depend on if you are fitted or not with the G15. The external weight pad is designed to give you the optimum in trajectory and spin. It will only take most users a few shots to realize that they are achieving a much greater height. This increased trajectory can cause some loss of distance so most find that they will have to make some adjustments for the increased launch angle. After some minor adjustments, most have found that this has greatly improved their distance. If you are serious about wanting more distance from the G15 make sure to have a PING fitter help you find the right loft for your swing.
It may slightly affect your power fade while on the range, but the draw becomes a weapon that is downright addicting. However, many do not notice as much of a draw as they notice how straight their drive has become when using the new G15. It really seems like a totally different driver with the latest developments in the distance, trajectory and sound.
